Ok, so some of you reading this probably already know me (Hi Mom!) but for those of you that don't, here is a little background. This coming year I will be going to South America as a YAGM volunteer through the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. As of right now, I am not sure exactly where I will be, but I do know I will be in either Argentina or Uruguay for approximately a year starting in August 2012.
I have always been interested in learning about different places and peoples, which probably explains why I ended up majoring in geography. However, until this past fall, I had never been outside the United States. Fortunately, I was able to study for the fall semester in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, where I developed a taste for plantains, chinolas, batata and bachata (the former is a tuber and the latter is a type of music, if you were wondering). During my time in the DR, I experienced a lot of things which were difficult for to me to reconcile and caused me to ask myself a lot of questions about what I saw. So when I found out about YAGM the focus of the program and its goals really struck a chord with me and I decided to apply. After a couple phone interviews and a discernment conference in Lake Geneva, it was decided that I was a good fit for Argentina/Uruguay.
Currently, I am all set to graduate from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota after which I will spend the summer in my hometown of Platteville, Wisconsin spending lots of time with family and friends as well as working at the Rollo Jamison & Mining Museum as a tour guide. (I really recommend you visit, if you are in the area!) So anyways, if you have any questions for me, please let me know. And thanks for visiting my blog!
